This is your chance to tell your story! And make it count.

The Extraordinary Opportunity Of Being Jewish Right Now

Being Jewish used to be so much simpler.

We all kinda, sorta knew the story in broad strokes. And the surrounding culture seemed to agree on it:

The West had more or less, if only partially, repented for its monumental sins. The Jewish people had nestled into the US, Canada, Australia and Europe, contributing, participating, accepted, thriving. And of course, the people of Israel had finally come, and maybe, just maybe, it might all work out.

We also generally knew what we stood for: an ethical anchor, a devotion to education, to family, to social justice, all wrapped up in dollops of neuroses and jokes, embraces and laughter. And, stuffed into our big traveling bag of tales and memories, we also hauled around this persistent, ancient call to bring light to the world.

But these days?

It seem as if the world is not so interested in light.

Or our truths.

That old, creaky, calculated, abstract fear of “the Jew” (boo!) has stalked back into our streets and popular consciousness, wrapped in keffiyehs, blue hair, wild eyes, outrageous lies and dumb, regurgitated stereotypes.

We hear them spewed daily from the smirking mouths of demonic social media icons.

Jews (not just Israelis) are pushed out of academia, literary groups, social organizations, shouted down in public forums and attacked in the streets.

Old libels have found shockingly fertile ground in the soil of Western imagination, fueled by billions of Qatari dollars. The far left and far right duke it out over which of them gets the right to absurdly define what Jewishness means.

As if either of them had the right, or authority.

Or a clue.

It would all be comic if it weren't so dangerous.

Today, once again, after all this time, your Jewishness - indeed your fundamental humanity - suddenly matters in ways you never expected.

And nobody - NOBODY - is asking you what you actually think. What you feel. What you believe. Who you actually are.

In other words, they are trying to dictate to you... you!

We say ENOUGH!

If you’re anything like me, you're tired of being told who you are, or worse, who you "should" be or what you should believe.

It's gotten damn noisy out there.

And maybe you've been feeling that you'd like to explore your inner truths in a quiet, safe, creative space...

... and re-discover the STRENGTH of your truth and your voice.

That's why we created The Jewish Voice Project...

A Personal Word from Adam

I've got a seat ready for you...

Here's what I've learned from over 35 years of teaching creative writing:

You contain treasures.

Dreams that you have yet to express.

Memories that are priceless and might be lost.

Meaningful insights that swim inside your noggin' but that you haven't yet immortalized into words.

These days, there is so much empty noise and it's become hard to hear that "still, small voice" within...

I developed the ongoing Jewish Voice Project Workshops as oases - sacred spaces, a creative playground, a refuge where you can quiet the world and - for a blissful pause - listen to your inner voices and feel yourself and the pulse of life in this world afresh.

Originally, I created this text-inspired creative writing practice for myself to "renew my soul" amidst the insane ups and downs of Hollywood projects and inane network notes ("Oh, this Hanukah script - it's great - but do they have to be Jewish?")

Yes, that happened.

I developed a creative writing system that works in a very specific way...

As a series of playful and provocative prompts that sets your creative flow going effortllessly...

A way that helps your words and ideas emerge naturally and makes writing easy-peasy.

I began teaching it at The American Jewish University - and on my back deck up here in my wooded Canyon under the stars.

And oh, the things that happen during these workshops!

What kinds of things might you experience?

Tears of joy and of sorrow finally expressed?

Yes.

The fierceness of your truth voiced for the first time?

You bet.

The warm feeling of connecting with your heritage in a creative, undogmatic, welcoming way that enriches your life?

Yup.

Expressing the tenderness of family, of love, of the simple joy of living inside a body on this beautiful green Earth.

Absolutely!

What emerges in these workshops opens my heart every time, and I believe it will do the same for you.

We all need to speak our truths aloud .

So I invite you to join us so you too can discover, express and write your own treasures.

After all, you're the only one in the world who can bring them into form.

It does a body, mind and soul good.

Hope to see you inside.

Adam Gilad

PhD/AbD

Speak Your Voice Aloud

As A Participant in this Workshop...

  • You will express your true self...

You'll show up as yourself. The truth has power. You are likely to express things you've never expressed before.

  • You will experience a new authenticity...

Today, you probably express diffrerent parts of your identity depending on who you're with. You're one version of yourself with your family, a different version with your friends, a different version at work, a different version online. You might feel fragmented. With these writing exercises you will reground, reintegrate and recenter..

  • You will feel alive in a whole new way...

You will gain clarity about what really matters in your life. What's sacred to you. What you wish to preserve, what to nurture and what to jettison.

  • You will have clarity on what to pass down...

We have a long tradition of storytelling. It's one of things that bind us and creates our extended family. You will discover, through these writing exercises, what matters most to you and what you wish to share with your family, your partner, your kids or grandkids. You will have writing that tells the core of you.

  • You will find warm community...

In this workshop, you'll find others who are asking similar questions as you. People who support you, your voice, your creativity.

  • You would tell the world who you are.

Instead of having your Jewishness defined by others, you will define it. You will write with clarion clarity: "This is who I am.. This is what I stand for. This is what matters to me. This is how I choose to show up in the world!"

You Will Write

You Will Deepen, You Will Grow!

Over three months, you're going to do the deep excavation work that allows you to answer three of the most important question you can ask in 2026...

Module 1:

Who Am I?

  • What do you believe?

  • How do your beliefs express in your actions?

  • How do core Jewish values shape your inner monologue?

  • How do they shape how you show up in the world.?

  • Which received ideas mean the most to you?

  • Which don't?

  • What Jewish ideas, stories, values are calling you into the future?

Module 2:

How Do I Love?

  • How does your Jewish identity affect or enrich your family relationships?

  • How does it affect your friendships?

  • How does it shape how you make - or don't make - community?

  • How does it affect/ has it affected your intimate relationships?

Module 3:

Who Am I In The World?

  • Now you're going to claim your voice and speak your truth to the world who you are as a Jew in 2026.

  • Explore the voices that matter to you and write your personal manifesto, your flag in the ground

  • Own your voice and authority as a vibrant Jewish human being.

This Is About You and

Your Unique Voice

We will draw inspiration from some of the greatest poets and writers in history...

And remember - this is a writing workshop! We will focus on what makes great writing - and learn from some of the best.

The voice with which you emerge will be uniquely your own.

You will write it.

You will claim it.

You will receive expert feedback to you can strengthen the power of your voice and your writing.

And then you get integrate what you write into who you are and how you show up in the world.

By the end, you won't just have a new understanding of yourself.

You’ll have writing you’ll be proud of!

You will carry the thrill of creative expression.

And... you can share that with the world in any way you choose.

Get Ready For A Journey Of Creativity And Discovery…

The joy of this workshop is that it's not some abstract intellectual exercise.

This is deep, personal, transformative - creative - work.

Even if you’ve never done creative writing before, you will - I predict - emerge with work that not only delights, but astonishes you.

Everyone is welcome, regardless of writing experience.

There is no judgment here. You can count on that.

It's an exploratory workshop in which we all support each other as our writing emerges and develops.

So what should you expect?

Expect to laugh!

Because you'll remember moments when you felt truly alive, truly yourself - grounded in your family, in your spirit, your aspirations.

Expect to cry!

Because you'll be digging into inherited wounds, questions you've never let yourself ask, grief you didn’t ask for. That's part of the work. In this comes liberation.

Expect to get angry!

Because you'll confront what parts of your life have been defined by others' narratives about who you should be.

Expect to find hidden parts of yourself!

Because you'll dig deep enough to see hidden truths that have been burrowing down there in your subconscious the whole time, under all the busyness of life, under all the social expectations.

Expect to integrate so many aspects of who you are!

You will express so many different parts of you - parts you inherited, parts you rejected, parts you choose, parts you've been hiding, parts you secretly celebrate - and they will start to come together. You may feel a wholeness you’ve never experienced before.

And you will find your voice.

It won't be your parents' voice. It won't be your rabbi's voice. It won’t be the ghouls of social media's. It will be yours.

You will become dangerous.

Because a Jewish person who knows who they are and what they stand for - and who's willing to say it out loud - is dangerous to every malicious or ignorant anti-semite who wants you to stay small, quiet, confused and endlessly apologizing.

That ends here.
